Alright, Alright, Alright

Entertainment Weekly:  You know what we love about Dazed and Confused? Matthew McConaughey gets older, but David Wooderson stays the same age.

After a nearly twenty-year hiatus, McConaughey has reprised the stoner comedy’s lingering high school graduate in Butch Walker’s new video for “Synthesizers,” off his album The Spade.

The collaboration came out of mutual admiration, and probably a dash of nostalgia. ”When it comes to classic characters, Matthew McConaughey’s ‘Wooderson’ took the cake…and the high school girls with him,” Walker says.

Added McConaughey, “If you love Dazed and you loved Wooderson, you’ll see this and you’ll probably get the tickle box pretty quick.” Read more »

One Hundred One Hundreds

My longest ever swim workout before January 1, 2012 consisted of maybe 5,500 yards in one session.  The thought of doing anything more than that never really seemed like much fun (it’s not).  As new year’s day 2012 approached I began to notice people posting on Facebook their first workout of the year plans.  A few years ago I remember seeing someone post their new year’s day swim workout of 100 100 yard sets.   Yep, that’s 10,000 yards.   For some crazy reason I thought that might be a good challenge at this point in my life and triathlon career.

I didn’t really advertise my plans just in case I chickened out.   Honesty, I wasn’t sure if I wanted to spend that much time in the pool after calculating how long it might take.  I estimated a time of 3 to 3.5 hours based on previous 1,000 yard times.

When Sunday January first rolled around, Muffin (Melissa) and I went to Oz Fitness in North Spokane so I could give it a shot.  She joined me in the pool for the first 30-45 minutes then went grocery shopping.  Read more »

Watch 2011 Hawaii Ironman anytime

Ironman.com – Coverage of the Ironman event has come a long way since its humble beginnings. Ironman went from receiving only a portion of the coverage on ABC’s “Wide World of Sports,” directly to center stage when World Triathlon Corporation (WTC) took control of the broadcast in 1991 and made it a stand- alone program. With this change, WTC now controlled content and production, and Ironman Triathlon found a new home at NBC with WTC taking an active role in the show’s production and development. In 2003, Ironman enjoyed its first-ever prime time airing with a two-hour show aired in a split format.

Each year, a crew of approximately 40 people cover the 140.6-mile course in spite of logistical and communication challenges. While there is much planning involved, how the race will unfold is never guaranteed. Favorites can drop out early or never become a factor, unknowns can surface and age group athletes may not keep their pace. For the television crew, it’s a long, grueling day that lasts from 3 a.m. to 2 a.m., when everyone finally calls it a day. Read more »

Tebow CURE Hospital

Less than two weeks ago the Tim Tebow Foundation launched a fundraiser for the recently announced Tebow CURE Hospital in the Philippines. The total expense of building the hospital is $3.1 million, and with only $700,000 left towards that goal, the foundation sent out a call to all Tim Tebow fans to consider joining in this effort. The request was simple. Every Tim Tebow fan was encouraged to donate $1 each to help the foundation realize this goal.

Tebowing Bandwagon

Everyone is jumping on the Tim Tebow Tebowing bandwagon and that wagon is not slowing down.

First of all, what is Tebowing? Tebowing is getting down on one knee and striking a Thinker-like pose but in this case, posing like you’re praying. The Denver Broncos QB can be seen ‘Tebowing’ after a good play or more likely after a score.

Tebowing has become so popular that the company Fathead has made a poster of it. It’s called “The Tebowing Fathead. A Fathead is a life size wall graphic of a particular athlete. The cost for a Tebowing Fathead is $99.

The Tebowing phenomenon has sparked a website dedicated to photos of people striking the Tebowing pose. The name is quite fitting, Tebowing.com. It has a Tebowing Fan of the Week (TFOW) section as well as a Top 10, Global, Toddlers, Patriotic, Celebs and Holiday categories. There’s even official Tebowing gear. Makes me wish I would’ve thought of it first!

But wait, there’s more! Tebowing has been acknowledged as an English language word by the Global Language Monitor. The GLM is a media analytics company that documents, analyzes and tracks cultural trends trends in language the world over, with a particular emphasis upon Global English. Read more »
